Staff Writer Avatar

The third instalment of WordCamp Harare is happening next week on 23 and 24 November at Hellenic Academy and I couldn’t be more excited! Here’s a list of things you need to know about WordCamp Harare 2018.

What’s A WordCamp?

WordCamps are informal, community-organized and officially endorsed events that are put together by local WordPress users. WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively, from beginner level, like the benefits of a WordPress website; to advanced techniques, like security.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool written in the programming language called PHP. It is probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system in existence today. Open source means the software is free as in mahala, and free as in you can copy it, share it and do whatever you like with it!

Who uses WordPress?

WordPress is used by a wide range of people from absolute beginners, bloggers, news sites ( like TechZim ), to multinational businesses. WordPress is the most widely used platform powering over 30% the internet! The closest runner-up is in the single-digit percentages.

Who can Attend WordCamp?

All are welcome! Whether you’re a beginner looking to build your first website, an executive who wants to take your company’s website to the next level, or if you’re a developer looking to level up your skills, WordCamp has something for everyone!

I can’t make it to WordCamp.

WordCamp comes only once a year but the Harare WordPress community has been meeting at least once a month for over 2 years. At meetups, we educate and motivate each other, as well as find ways to contribute to the community through WordPress. A WordCamp ticket is just $10 but meetups are free. Signup to the Harare meetup group or Bulawayo meetup group to get notified when the next meetup is scheduled!

Ok, I’m in!

Visit the WordCamp Harare website to learn more, or jump straight to the tickets page to get your ticket for just $10. Most local payment methods are accepted except cash and swipe.
