Twitter lite app – a way for you to save your data while enjoying Twitter

Twitter lite, Social Media, Twimbos,

According to TechCrunch, Twitter is working on a data light app for its users. The app will be called Twitter lite and it is currently being tested in the Philippines as the market has slow mobile networks and expensive data plans. All these problems are not common to the Philippines only as Zimbabwe also has the same challenges.

The app is available on the Google Play Store, however, if you’re not browsing from the Philippines, you will most likely not be able to download it from there. The Twitter lite app will run on devices that have Android 5.0 and up. It is also reported that is will be usable on 2G and 3G networks so those of you who use Telecel which is still yet to roll out 4G LTE on their network will be covered.

Since the app is meant to save your data, it will currently only cost you 1MB of data to download it and after you install it, only 3MB of your storage space will be used so you’ll also save storage space. The Twitter lite app features most of the basic functionalities of the normal Twitter app like timeline, notifications, explore tab, messages etc.

The data saving really kicks in when you activate the data saver feature of the Twitter lite app. This will make sure that no images or videos are automatically downloaded. You will only see the video or images that you want to see when you select them. So this gives you total control over what your data is used for unlike in the normal Twitter app where everything is downloaded.

it is reported that the app will use 70% fewer data and it will also launch 30% faster compared to the current Twitter app. Earlier this year, Twitter also launched a data saving version of the Twitter website. Hopefully, this app will also make to global release as it will be much more convenient to use it instead of mobile web version of Twitter.

Let us know what you think about this. Would you love to see the Twitter lite app being made available in Zimbabwe? What features would you like to see in the Twitter lite app? Does the current Twitter app use a lot of data for you or it’s not that big of a deal?

Switched to this version because 1) occupies less phone storage, and 2) app is hella quick. I wish there’s: 1) an option for timestamp instead of 12 hour time format, 2) modal for images when user presses an image for few seconds because I don’t like how I still have to click the image to see its entirety, and 3) an option for me to opt out features I have no need of like Lists and Moments. Oh and thank you for the hard work, software engineers! ? Get the latest version of app from
